Piezo materials can be used as an actuator which can produce very fine (several nanometres) movement. While the piezo actuator is engaged, it consumes very little power to keep it in that position. The problem with the piezo actuator in the real application is that it can only produce very limited displacement. Different methods to amplify the small movement are researched.
The possible application areas using piezo actuator in vehicle control are: piezo direct braking system, vehicle suspension system, gear transmission system and different control valves.
